There has been a lots of talk recently of the Scottish backing independence. What is interesting is that this support was lacking after the EU Referendum but has had a sudden boost in 2020.
This looks like a coronavirus effect where people all over the world have been blaming their governments for the virus. However, the arrival of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister also decreased support for the Union. Anyone who is opposed to Scottish independence would want to wait until COVID19 is a year in the past before considering the issue.
A border poll on Northern Irish secession is likely from 2026 onwards.
Once the polls show a reasonable majority for secession Northern Ireland is compelled to hold a border poll according to the terms of the Belfast Agreement.
