COVID 19 was first known to be a contagious epidemic in December 2019 after an outbreak at the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) Hospital in Wuhan. The outbreak spread into the HuaNan fish market.
An article in the Lancet confirmed this pattern of infection with the earliest cases being outside of the fish market:

However, the army volunteers in the PLA Hospital were almost certainly not included in the above data (see below).
A site survey of the circumstances of the spread was undertaken by a group of Chinese investigators . This survey showed that the HuaNan market had never sold bats, that the Virological laboratories in Wuhan had large collections of bat viruses and that biosecurity was so poor that: "The tissue samples and contaminated trashes were source of pathogens. They were only ~280 meters from the seafood market." It was also noted that the nearest relative to the virus that causes COVID19, SARS-CoV-2, was to be found in bats 900km away. This site survey was not a scientific experiment but a reputable survey of the site as it was found, it ended with the observation that: "In summary, somebody was entangled with the evolution of 2019-nCoV coronavirus.".
A group of Chinese geneticists concluded that "Phyloepidemiologic analyses suggested that the SARS-CoV-2 source at the Hua Nan market was imported from elsewhere. The crowded market then boosted SARS-CoV-2 circulation and spread it to the whole city in early December 2019." Once it was obvious that no informed person was going to believe the Hua Nan Fish market story the Chinese Government withdrew it and stated that they did not know where the infection had originated:
'"At first, we assumed the seafood market might have the virus, but now the market is more like a victim. The novel coronavirus had existed long before,"
Gao Fu, director of the center [Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)] and member of the National Committee of the 13th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said on Monday.
Gao said he had gone to Wuhan to collect samples for COVID-19 researchers in early January, but no viruses were detected in the animal samples. Viruses were only found in environmental samples, including sewage.'

Over the past 50 years I have never come across a publicly proven fact, such as the COVID19 pandemic NOT having originated in the Huanan fish market, being reported everywhere as the opposite for a whole year.
At this stage the Chinese government stepped in. They had already destroyed the reputations of any medical staff who mentioned the virus was contagious and now placed the Wuhan Virological Institute and satellite laboratory (the one next to the fish market) under military control. The laboratories were cleansed and all information relating to the virus was removed.
Reports by Caixin Global showed that China had recognised that a dangerous virus that could spread from person to person was on the loose in December 2019 and through January 2020. The Caixin data is summarised in this Daily Mail article.
The Chinese reluctance to share data meant that the WHO issued the following travel and trade advice for people visiting China on the 12th January 2020:
"WHO advises against the application of any travel or trade restrictions on China based on the information currently available on this event." WHO
Which must surely be the most negligent medical advice ever offered.
It has subsequently transpired that the "five eyes" intelligence group (USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia) are fully aware that the WHO was negligent:
..“Despite evidence of human-human transmission from early December, PRC authorities deny it until January 20,”. “The World Health Organisation does the same. Yet officials in Taiwan raised concerns as early as December 31, as did experts in Hong Kong on January 4.” (A report by the "Five Eyes" Intelligence group was leaked to the Australian Sunday Telegraph).
The "Five Eyes" intelligence was the reason that the USA withdrew WHO funding and Australia demanded a full investigation.
This was what happened and China must be a pariah for letting the world catch COVID.
However, worse is yet to come. It seems very likely that COVID19 escaped from a laboratory in Wuhan and quite possible that the virus was a genetically engineered bioweapon.
Chinese Virological Laboratories have an appalling biosafety record. There have been four reported SARS outbreaks from the Beijing Virology Institute (see WHO records) and SARS is lethal. China is also a relatively new entrant to high level virus biosafety, the Wuhan Institute of Virology being its first level-4 (super high containment) lab. Visiting US scientists were so disturbed about biosecurity in the Wuhan Institute of Virology that they warned in 2018 that "the lab’s work on bat coronaviruses and their potential human transmission represented a risk of a new SARS-like pandemic" (Washington Post).
Another factor that suggests a lab escape is the circumstances of the first victims at the People's Liberation Army Hospital. The PLA hospital is adjacent to the Wuhan Institute of Virology and there is some suggestion that they were part of a clinical trial involving SARS-COV-2. These victims were only discovered from records in the European Nucleotide Archive.
There are even worse aspects to the COVID19 saga. The team at the Wuhan Institute of Virology had been involved in "gain of function" experiments on bat viruses. Yes, really, they were making them worse! The lead scientist, Shi Zhengli, had gained her skills in the USA where she was a co-author of A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence in which researchers changed the genetic structure of a bat virus so that it would infect humans. This "gain of function" experimentation was subsequently severely censured by virologists and is the subject of a secret review. We forget that virology, like nuclear physics, has a "defence" application so many of those working on "gain of function" are working for the military. All Chinese research facilities are dual military-civilian use facilities.
Some virologists are convinced that COVID19 is an escaped bioweapon, for instance Professor Luc Montagnier, the winner of the Nobel Prize for medicine for discovering HIV says that Covid-19 is a lab escape and a bioweapon - yes, SARS-CoV-2 has HIV protein inserted in it - see Evidence that Covid-19 was a bioweapon. However, there was one very influential paper from the Scripps Institute that declared that COVID19 was not a bioweapon. This paper was used by all the "fact checkers" to declare that COVID19 was an entirely natural disease and to encourage social media to ban any tweets that denied this. Although the paper had the denial that COVID19 was man-made in the abstract nowhere did it deny that COVID19 was a lab escape of a natural or synthetic virus and nowhere in the text did it prove that COVID19 was not synthetic. (See Fact checkers rely on one source for origins of COVID19). We should find the reach of Chinese money and power into Western media and social media deeply shocking. When a Chinese virologist, Lee-Meng Yan, fled to the West saying that COVID19 was a bioweapon the media believed the "fact" checkers rather than the woman who had risked her life to bring us this news (See More Evidence that COVID19 was Man-Made).
The only mystery in all this is why the Western Mainstream Media, especially the BBC, is being so coy about calling China out on its handling of the outbreak, the possibility of a lab escape and the evidence that this was a bioweapon. What is wrong with our media?
The UK government is part of "Five Eyes" and so must know that at best COVID19 was a lab escape and at worst a bioweapon but they are keeping quiet. Why?
Over the past year it has become clear that people in the West really do not want COVID to be a lab escape and especially do not want it to be a bioweapon. I also hope that this is not the case but I would not omit or suppress information from reliable sources and reasoning that proves, or strongly suggests, COVID is a bioweapon just to preserve my "innocence". If COVID19 was a bioweapon then the Chinese military must be celebrating - to launch a weapon to destroy Western economies without more than a murmur of protest that was easily suppressed must be the greatest victory of all time.
