Being Politically Correct has been called a new religion. This is true in the sense that it is believed with the same religious fervour as communism or national socialism is believed. The new generation of Political Correctors use their beliefs to limit conversation and thought in the same way as Puritans and this is also typical of religious practice.
The Political Correctors in the classroom and home have focussed on bringing up their children according to their beliefs. Political correctness has arisen in the same way as national socialism (nazism) gained power, being spread by teachers, academics and the middle classes in general with the aim of indoctrinating children.
The indoctrination of children is also typical of religions.
Like national socialists and communists the Correctors are antagonistic to democracy because they believe that free speech is secondary to their principles. Exclusion is the favoured method at this stage in the rise of the Correctors. Where direct attacks on opponents are not possible the Correctors operate by no-platforming and social exclusion. The BBC is the prime Corrector in the UK and prime example of no-platforming by excluding any coverage of ideas and events that are not politically correct and deriding politicians who are not Correct.
The furore over Tony Abbott is just the latest example of the Correctors opposing appointments because a candidate is not politically correct. This is akin to Protestants denying Catholics any role in government two centuries ago.
The power of the Correctors in the UK lies in the Equality Act 2010. This law attacks freedom of speech directly and must be replaced by strengthened laws against harassment and with quotas where there is evidence of discrimination in offering employment and promotion. The law should directly address the actual problems that the Equality Act 2010 purports to solve and not be aimed at making the population politically correct.
Correctors have such zeal that they just don't get that in a democracy other opinions must be tolerated. Like all religious zealots before them they believe that those who do not share their ideas and approach to life are evil. The rise of the Correctors is the greatest threat to democracy since the fall of the Soviet Union and should be taken seriously.
