The Internet has been given almost thirty years to develop to its near final form. Now is the time for the UK Government to mould it to the best interests of the whole country.
The internet is little different from any other communication system except that government has failed to regulate it properly. Governments charge business rates on businesses operating from physical premises, they charge corporation tax on companies that operate in the UK, we have laws against stalking, threatening behaviour and obscenity. The UK government must now regulate the Internet like they regulate the rest of our society.
The Internet connects countries through an international fibre network. Each node where the network enters the UK is like a port. Once in the country the data flows to other nodes run by, and on behalf of, Internet Service Providers (ISPs):
These nodes route the data to its final destination. The regulation of the Internet should be based on regarding International Access Points in the same way as ports and ISPs in a similar way to shopping centres.
Here is a plan for ensuring that Internet Services are truly services for all of us:
Satellite based internet access must be made illegal or even jammed because they are obviously a violation of UK security. It is surprising that the Chinese and Russians have not warned that they will shoot down Internet satellites.
Electronic communications are now too sensitive and central to our lives to allow the current anarchy to continue.

Here is a plan for ensuring that Internet Services are truly services for all of us:
- A National Firewall is absolutely essential for national security, collecting taxes from overseas vendors and limiting crime. The National Firewall would allow the points below to be enacted as well as preventing foreign sabotage of elections, infrastructure and business.
- International Access Points should only be available to the https protocol where the government is a partner certificate authority. (ie: the government should have access to International Communications).
- Social media companies must be regarded as publishers so they can be brought into the standard legal framework that is used for all text and image distribution. It is absurd that electronic communication has been exempted from much of the law on literary works.
- Pornography should be supplied on a separate .porn channel only accessible on the https protocol. The government would certify each porn vendor by being a partner certificate holder. Web browsers would only be able to gain access to .porn if the user has entered a secure password.
- Ebay, Amazon and other goods emporia should be regarded as giant shopping centers. Each local authority should be able to levy rates according to the usage from their area and able to demand that users from their area have a virtual, local online shopping centre that uses local delivery services. ISPs would need to be licensed and would be bound by this to provide Local Network Services.
- Satellite Internet Services should be jammed. SpaceX may be the provider today but it will be a Chinese company tomorrow.
